Chema Atrung

Statues with an extraordinary spiritual presence: Some very old and highly revered statues may be referred to in oral tradition as “Chema Atrung” if they are believed to be deeply blessed or to retain their full spiritual energy undiminished. In relation to Guru Rinpoche, Chema Atrung refers to sacred manifestations (statues, images, etc.) that are still fully alive with his presence and blessings. These are considered especially potent and are often centers of pilgrimage, ritual, or veneration. Significance of Chema Atrung Statues In Tibetan Buddhism, Chema Atrung statues are more than artistic depictions; they are living embodiments of enlightened beings. These statues are believed to: Emanate blessings continuously, aiding practitioners in their spiritual journeys. • Serve as focal points for meditation, devotion, and ritual practices. • Act as protectors, warding off obstacles and negative influences. In terma (treasure) traditions, some revealed Guru Rinpoche statues or thangkas are said to be Chema Atrung, because: • They were concealed with blessings by Padmasambhava himself. • They retain their power without needing reconsecration.
